CIAC LONDON RESIDENCY WITH COLIN METTERS August 21/22/23 and 25/26/27, 2022 "Colin Metters is considered universally to be one of the world's most distinguished and sought-after conducting pedagogues. If the test of any great teacher is the respect that he commands from his students, then Colin Metters is without doubt a great teacher." Raymond Holden – conductor, broadcaster, lecturer and respected author of books on conductors and conducting. Quotes and testimonials from past CIAC participants: "Colin Metters' pedagogy interconnects intellectual rigour, emotional honesty and gestural clarity. With an unflinching eye, Metters guides, interrogates assumptions, demands musical integrity and challenges the student to turn up the volume on their own imagination." "Colin Metters' approach to the phenomenon of orchestral sound converts a potential 'disadvantage' of a virtual conducting course into a deeply personal, multi-dimensional experience, creating your own independent internal hearing and transforming it into a “sounding conducting." Having been Head of Conducting Studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London for 30 years, establishing the conducting programme as “world renowned” – in the words of the New York Times - Colin Metters now enjoys an independent freelance career as a conducting pedagogue and mentor, working with aspiring and established conductors on an individual one-to-one basis and giving international masterclasses all over the world. He is Emeritus Professor of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music, London, given masterclasses each term at the Royal College of Music, London, and has given masterclasses at the Krakow Academy of Music as Visiting Professor of Conducting. Colin Metters works regularly with the Cardiff International Academy of Conducting.
